"FTP." "Telnet." "Gopher." "TCP/IP." "SLIP." "WAIS." The road leading to the so-called "Information Superhighway" is littered with oddly-named stops. Mosaic is the newest vehicle for traveling through this labyrinth, and it greatly simplifies the access to the Internet.
What is Mosaic? It is a "browser" for the Internet which allows users to retrieve text, pictures, sound, video, and links to other multi-media documents. These documents may reside on almost any computer anywhere on the Internet. Mosaic is a program with versions for Macintosh and Windows and using it is as easy as "point and click."
As you read this Labyrinth-Forum, keep in mind that this, as well as past issues, is available from MCLI in Mosaic format. We have set up an Internet server for Mosaic users that includes information about the Maricopa Community Colleges, resources from MCLI, plus links to other Internet resources. Mosaic servers are at Estrella Mountain Community College Center and Chandler-Gilbert Community College. Mesa Community College is starting a project where students will use Mosaic to post on-line portfolios of their work.
If you have considered stepping into the Internet (it is likely that your students may also be interested), Mosaic is a recommended vehicle to start the journey.
